Our department was established in 1982 as the Department of Mathematics and Science Education within the Gazi Faculty of Education in order to train Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics teachers to our country's secondary education. There were Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Education programs within the department. In 1998, within the scope of restructuring of Education Faculties, its name was changed as the Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education and it continued its education process in the form of a Master's Program without Thesis combined with a 5-year undergraduate program.
In 2014, the programs within our Department were reduced from 5 years to 4 years. Since the 2016 academic year, the name of the department has been changed to the Department of Mathematics and Science Education and in addition to the Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Teaching programs, the Science Teaching program has been included in our department. Within the Mathematics Education division; 2 (two) different programs are carried out as Primary Mathematics Teaching and Secondary Mathematics Teaching.
Graduates who want to do academic work can get master's and doctorate degrees with our graduate education programs affiliated with the Institute of Educational Sciences.
